Mark McKinnon with the DOT said at least one lane in each direction will be open, possibly two in the westbound direction. In addition, new traffic signals will be operating at the intersections of SR 53 and SR 211 and SR 53 and Oliver Road/Strickland Road.
McKinnon said just because there are new lanes open doesn't mean motorists should pick up speed along the corridor.
"People just want to be aware that it is still a work zone, and it's a good idea to be very alert and slow down as they move through there."
McKinnon said the contractor is working on schedule and the entire Winder Highway project should be finished by December, if not sooner.
