UNDATED - On the same day Dawson County reopened one of its boat ramps, the level of Lake Lanier began dropping again.

The level, which rose nearly 2.5 feet last week following torrential rains from Tropical Storm Fay, starting retreating again Tuesday - the same day Dawson County reopened one of the boat ramps at War Hill Park.

It was closed several weeks ago as the level of the drought-stricken lake continued to drop and is now the only public ramp in the county that is open, according to Dawson County Parks Director Lisa Henson.

"If lake levels decrease again to the point where safety becomes an issue, we may face closure again," Henson said.

"We don't know for how long (it will be open)," she said, adding, "but maybe this next tropical storm will bring us some more rain in the Chattahoochee Basin (which feeds Lake Lanier)."

The lake level early Wednesday was 1055.66 - a drop of .04 feet from 24 hours earlier.
