AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn has a new starting quarterback this week, but fans shouldn't read anything into it.

Coach Tommy Tuberville said Tuesday that Chris Todd will start for the ninth-ranked Tigers Saturday against Southern Miss. He said that was the plan, even before Kodi Burns was injured in the opener.

Burns, who started that game, sustained a cut on his left leg in the third quarter. He practiced Tuesday on a limited basis and Tuberville said Burns wouldn't play unless he's fully recovered because he is a running quarterback.

Tuberville also said receiver James Swinton won't play unless he can return to practice by Wednesday from a hamstring injury. Running back and return man Tristan Davis is expected to play.

He missed the opener with an ankle injury.
