ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia freshman Charles White will miss the season with an Achilles tendon injury, cutting into the Bulldogs' depth at linebacker.

White, from Columbia, S.C., was expected to play on special teams and as a backup at linebacker, according to coach Mark Richt. White suffered the injury on Thursday.

Richt put his team through a 45-minute scrimmage in full pads on Friday, one day after the team's scrimmage at Sanford Stadium.

Richt said he decided the team needed more contact work after he reviewed film of Thursday's practice.

``We needed to play full-speed tackle football, and I think we scared ourselves out of playing football Thursday,'' Richt said.

``We threw the pads on again and said we're going to play, and they got excited, and that fired me up. They wanted to compete, and it was a very crisp workout. Today was good medicine for everybody.''
