Buford grad McGlon to kick for S. Alabama

Lawson McGlon, a three-year kicker for 2007 Class AA champion Buford has committed to play for the University of South Alabama football program in Mobile, Ala. <br /> <br /> McGlon committed to Coach Joey Jones in July. "I spoke with coach Jones in July. I told him I would enroll in January and be ready to compete at spring practice," McGlon said. <br /> <br /> McGlon had over 185 kickoffs while playing for the Wolves, with over 90 percent touchbacks or downed inside the 20 yard line. On field goals he was 8-of-11, with one game winner vs. Cartersville and a long of 37 yards in the state championship game vs Lovett. <br /> <br /> The University of South Alabama will begin its first season in 2009 under the leadership of head coach Joey Jones, an outstanding wide receiver under Coach Bear Bryant at The University of Alabama. Jones played professional football with the USFL Birmingham Stallions and the NFL Atlanta Falcons.<br /> <br /> McGlon, who was recruited by Georgia Southern University, Mars Hill, University of Miami-Ohio, Lenoir Ryhne, Valdosta State, Old Dominion, Jacksonville State, and Bowling Green, will enroll at South Alabama in January, and begin spring training for the following inaugural 2009 Fall season. <br /> <br /> In 2010, the Jaguars will play in Division I-AA and start the transition to becoming a member of the Sun Belt Conference and an official Division I football program in 2013. The Jaguars' home field is Ladd-Peebles Stadium, site of the annual Senior Bowl.
