Forsyth County Sheriff's Capt. Frank Huggins said the fuss started when Michelle Rains asked that her 9-year-old daughter be transferred to another cheerleading squad. Rain's attorney said the child was assigned to a squad with younger, less experienced cheerleaders.
Apparently, the Sharon Springs Cheerleading Association sent Rains an e-mail agreeing to the move, but Rains was on vacation and did not respond to the e-mail.
When Rains was told Aug. 1 during a cheer clinic at West Forsyth High School it was too late to make the transfer, she allegedly hit Youth Association President Nancy Cunningham in the chin. She is also accused of taunting Cunningham after she struck her. Rains faces charges of simple battery.
Rains plans to bring charges against Cunningham because she said Cunningham grabbed her during the altercation.
