BUFORD - A Buford woman has been arrested on identity fraud charges after authorities say she obtained personal and medical information from six elderly Alzheimer's patients that were being cared for at a Buford nursing home.

Gwinnett Police Cpl. Illana Spellman said 36-year-old Iniabel Ferrer and 44-year-old Jose Luis Ciuro, also of Buford, asked a woman to use her computer skills to steal money from the victims' bank accounts.

After the woman reported the incident, "Officers went to Ms. Ferrer's residence and made a traffic stop on Ms. Ferrer and Mr. Ciuro as they were leaving their house," Spellman said. "Documents containing the information of the six elderly people at the nursing home were found in their possession."

Spellman said Ferrer was employed at Brookside Nursing Home as a contracted sitter, and that she had worked there since January. Investigators confirmed that Ferrer did not have permission or reason to access patient information.
Ferrer was charged with six counts of felony exploitation of a disabled adult and six counts of felony financial identity fraud. She is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center with a $68,400 bond. Ciuro is still at large.
