Five of the new schools are in Gwinnett County, two in Hall and one each in Dawson, Habersham and White counties.
Forsyth County added several new schools last year and has five more on the drawing board for the 2009-10 school year.
The new schools in Gwinnett are Puckett's Mill Elementary in Dacula, Rosebud Elementary in Loganville, Trip Elementary in Grayson, Benefield Elementary in Lawrenceville and Lanier Middle School in Buford.
The new schools in Hall County are the new Chestnut Mountain Elementary on Union Church Road and the World Language Academy, the system's first School of Choice and first Charter School, which will be housed in the old Chestnut Mountain building on Winder Highway, which was renovated over the summer.
Other new schools in the area include: Dawson County Middle School, Mossy Creek Elementary in White County and Fairview Elementary in Habersham County.
The earliest opening day of classes in the area was Friday, Aug. 1, for students in the Jefferson City School System. The latest will be in Barrow County, Friday, Aug. 15. Most schools will begin the new year Thursday, Aug. 7.
Not all school systems in the area provided us with information on their plans for the new school year, but of those that did, all reported that they expect an increase in enrollment.
