Mimbs, a 5-foot-11, senior from Dublin, was tabbed third-team All-SEC in preseason balloting of league coaches. Last season, he finished third in the SEC with an average of 42.4 yards on 57 punts. In addition, Georgia ranked third in the SEC and 14th nationally in net punting at 37.86 yards.
A Risk Management and Insurance major in Georgia's Terry College of Business, Mimbs was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District football team last season.
Mimbs is a two-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs. In 2006, he appeared in victories over No. 5 Auburn, No. 16 Georgia Tech and No. 14 Virginia Tech. Mimbs successfully recovered his own on-side kick attempt against Virginia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, a key play in the Dogs' rally from a 21-3 halftime deficit en route to a 31-24 victory.
Mimbs is the latest in a long list of walk-ons who have made major contributions to the Bulldogs including: placekicker Brandon Coutu, who was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2008; placekicker Billy Bennett, who broke 29 NCAA, SEC and UGA records from 2000-03; Gordon Ely-Kelson, Georgia's starting punter from 2003-06; fullbacks Verron Haynes and J.T. Wall, who both went on to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL; and Mike Fisher, Robert Miles, Nate Taylor and Dale Williams, all starters on the Bulldogs' 1980 National Championship squad.
