Mary Echols' husband, Lloyd, died shortly afterward when a tree crashed through the roof of their mobile home off Hickory Flat Road in Banks County and across their bed, where he was still sleeping.
The storm struck about 10:00.
Officials say Mary Echols, survived because she moved to a couch in the living room when the heavy rain awoke her. She said the falling tree ``killed him instantly.''
The couple's dog was also on the bed with Echols but was unharmed.
It took rescuers more than two hours to free his body.
