University of Georgia basketball player Billy Humphrey has been dismissed from the Bulldog team, according to an announcement Friday from head coach Dennis Felton.

Humphrey was arrested and charged with DUI, failure to maintain a lane and purchasing alcohol while under age on Tuesday morning in Gwinnett County. The arrest was Humphrey's second on alcohol-related charges since February.

He had also already been placed on probation for 18 months and entered into a pretrial diversion program after being arrested in November on a felony weapons charge for having a butterfly knife in his dorm room.

"I am disappointed in Billy," Felton said. "We've worked really hard with him in the past to see that he succeeds, but I feel that it's now best for our program to move forward without him."

Humphrey, a rising senior from Dacula, played in 30 of 34 games in the 2008 season, starting in 28. He averaged 12.2 points per game, second-best among all Bulldogs, and 3.5 rebounds. His 37 percent shooting from 3-point range and 83 percent from the free-throw line were both team-best numbers.

Felton said that he will not be make any further comments on the matter.
