GAINESVILLE - After weeks of discussion and public input, the Gainesville Board of Education, still faced with a multi-million dollar deficit, hopes to adopt a new budget Monday night.

The board met twice last week as it struggles with a $6-7 million deficit and a possible 1.4 mill tax rate increase, which has been proposed by Superintendent Steve Ballowe. Ballowe continues under the gun because of the deficit, which came to light only a few weeks ago, and the tax increase proposal.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. at the Gainesville High School cafeteria, instead of the school board offices on Oak Street.
