GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Manager Bryan Shuler has announced the appointment of Debbie Jones as City Marshal.

Jones has been with the city for seven years and will replace Chuck Smith, who has retired.

Jones says she's excited about the chance to lead a growing city division.

"When I came to work for the city we had two marshals," she said. "Today, we have six marshals dedicated to the enforcement of our various ordinances, especially those that address property maintenance issues. Our office takes great pride in the continued beautification of the City of Gainesville."

Debbie is a native of Rome, Ga. She worked for Floyd County Government for 15 years as both a deputy sheriff and Clerk of Juvenile Court. She worked in the private sector before joining the marshal's office in Gainesville in April 2001.

Debbie is married to Mike Jones, a career law enforcement officer and the Chief of Police for the City of Suwanee. They have two sons, Michael, 24, and Daniel, 11.
