LIMELETTE, Belgium - Women's sports is taking another big hit.

Justine Henin retired from tennis today, leaving the game as the Number 1-ranked player in the world. The surprising announcement comes two weeks before the start of the French Open, where Henin won four of her seven Grand Slam singles titles.

The 25-year-old Belgian would have been a three-time defending champion in Paris.
Henin's announcement comes a day after golfer Annika Sorenstam announced she's quitting at the end of the season. The 37-year-old Swede owns 10 major titles and is one of only six women to complete a career Grand Slam in her sport.

Henin won't have any sort of farewell tour. She is quitting immediately.

Henin won 10 tournaments last year, but has been in one of the worst slumps of her career this season. She lost last week in the third round of the German Open and pulled out of this week's Italian Open, citing fatigue.
