Duncan pitches No. 25 Tech past Clemson

ATLANTA - David Duncan worked eight solid innings while Charlie Blackmon and Tony Plagman collected three hits apiece to lead No. 25 Georgia Tech to a 5-1 win over Clemson Friday night in the series opener at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Duncan (7-2) gave up just one run - a solo home run in the sixth - on six hits while striking out five and walking none to earn his seventh win of the season. Andrew Robinson tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off the Tigers.

An RBI groundout by Jason Haniger, followed by run-scoring singles by Blackmon and Jeff Rowland staked the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Blackmon went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI while Rowland finished the night 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt.

Tech (35-14, 13-12 ACC) extended its lead to 4-0 when Plagman reached on a two-out double in the third inning and scored on Feltes RBI single. Plagman went 3-for-4 with two runs scored against Clemson, and Feltes collected two hits in four at bats.

Plagman singled to lead off the eighth inning, moved to second on a passed ball by Tiger catcher Doug Hogan, and scored on Thomas Nichols RBI single to cap the scoring for the Jackets.

Tech and Clemson (25-24-1) will continue the Atlantic Coast Conference series Saturday at 7 p.m. in a game that will be televised on CSS. The game can also be heard on 790 the Zone, while live stats will be available at Ramblinwreck.com.
