ATLANTA -- Atlanta Braves reliever Peter Moylan will miss the rest of the season after having Tommy John surgery Thursday in Birmingham.

Dr. James Andrews performed the ligament-replacement surgery in Moylan's right elbow after finding a bone spur had broken off and compromised the ligament, according to Braves spokesman Brad Hainje.

The Braves reported the surgery was successful.

Moylan opened the season as the set-up man to closer Rafael Soriano, who also is on the disabled list with a sore elbow.

Moylan was 0-1 with one save and a 1.59 ERA this season.

MORE WORRIES: Bobby Cox says the Braves have had enough depth to survive having four pitchers on the disabled list, but the manager's worries grew as he saw two more pitchers leave Thursday's game with problems.

Braves starter Jo-Jo Reyes left in the third inning of the 5-4 win over San Diego after starting to develop a blister on his left index finger.

Buddy Carlyle, who relieved Reyes, was knocked out of the game in the fifth with a neck injury suffered in a baseline collision with Kevin Kouzmanoff.

Carlyle said he was scared at first because the impact twisted his neck. He was listed as day to day with a muscle strain to the left side of his neck.

Carlyle said he felt better by the time he reached the clubhouse. He said he could be available to pitch as soon as Friday.

Reyes said he doesn't expect to miss a start. He said a raw spot on his finger would have become a blister if he remained in the game.

The Braves have starters John Smoltz and Mike Hampton on the disabled list, along with Soriano and Moylan.

Soriano has experienced continued discomfort in his elbow, though tests this week showed no major problems.

Reyes was making his second spot for Smoltz, who plans to return as the team's closer.

QUICK START: The Braves activated Omar Infante before the game, and Cox listed the utility player as his starting second baseman and leadoff hitter long before Infante reached the stadium.

Infante, who flew to Atlanta from Richmond, finally arrived about an hour before the game, but he was missing his luggage. Infante borrowed a glove from infielder Martin Prado and played a flawless game. He started a double play to end the first inning and was 1-for-3.

The Braves put catcher Brayan Pena on the disabled list with a back sprain to clear the roster spot for Infante.

Infante, 26, was acquired with reliever Will Ohman in a December trade that sent reliever Jose Ascanio to the Chicago Cubs.

Infante opened the season on the DL with a fractured right hand.

Cox said he started Infante to give Kelly Johnson a rest.

NO SAVE: Manny Acosta lost a save Thursday when an official scorer realized he mistakenly awarded one in the previous night following the Atlanta Braves' 5-2 win over the San Diego Padres.

Acosta, the Braves' fill-in closer, entered with a 5-2 lead Wednesday after Will Ohman got the first out of the ninth inning. Acosta retired Callix Crabbe and Khalil Greene to end the game.

Braves official scorer Jack Wilkinson awarded Acosta his third save, and the save was included on the boxscore and postgame report.

The save was removed following a review by the commissioner's office and the Elias Sports Bureau, baseball's statistician. To qualify for the save, Acosta would have had to start the inning with a three-run lead or enter the game with the potential tying run on base, at the plate or on deck.

Acosta made up for the lost save by earning his first win Thursday. He recorded the final out in the ninth inning to protect a 4-4 tie. The Braves took the win in the bottom of the inning.

NORTON DELIVERS AGAIN: After knocking in the go-ahead run Wednesday night with a pinch-hit single, Greg Norton delivered again Thursday with a pinch-hit two-run single in the sixth. Norton is 2-for-3 as a pinch-hitter in his first week with the team.
Pete Moylan is out for the season after surgery.
