Reinhardt softball players earn all-conference honors

Several members of the 2008 Reinhardt College softball team were honored with postseason awards from the Southern States Athletic Conference on Wednesday. <br /> <br /> In a vote of the eight SSAC head coaches, Reinhardt earned three first team All-SSAC spots, three players named to the second team, one all-freshman team performer and a Gold Glove outfielder. Additionally, the Lady Eagles had four players earn a place on the all-academic team. <br /> <br /> Garnering first team All-SSAC honors for Reinhardt were Ashley Bramhall, a senior pitcher/outfielder from Houston, Texas; Shastin Rader, a senior outfielder out of Palmetto, Fla.; and Nicole Rice, a sophomore outfielder from Douglasville. <br /> <br /> Entering the SSAC Tournament, Bramhall was hitting .320 with team highs of 56 hits, 35 runs scored, 13 doubles, three home runs, 32 RBIs, 82 total bases, 17 pitching victories and 126 strikeouts. Rader was hitting .317 with a team-best three triples while Rice was leading the Lady Eagles in batting (.338 average) and also collected three triples. Rader was also chosen as the conference's Gold Glove outfielder. <br /> <br /> Morgan Basone, a sophomore third baseman/catcher from Woodstock; Katie Cash, a senior second baseman out of Locust Grove; and Cassie Davis, a junior first baseman/designated hitter from Metter, received second team All-Conference accolades. Basone finished the regular season with a .333 batting average and 31 RBIs, leading the club in sacrifice flies (three) while striking out just five times in 129 at-bats. Cash hit .245, striking out only eight times in 139 at-bats, while Davis batted .324 with two homers and 25 RBIs. <br /> <br /> Erin Byram earned a spot on the SSAC All-Freshman team. A catcher/third baseman from Canton, Byram finished the regular season with a .313 batting average and 26 RBIs while leading Reinhardt with 17 walks and just seven strikeouts in 128 at-bats. <br /> <br /> Making the SSAC All-Academic Team were senior outfielder Whitney Fagge (Gainesville), junior shortstop Casey Hollifield (Dallas, Ga.), sophomore pitcher/outfielder Alex Riccardi (Americus) and Rice. <br /> <br /> The Lady Eagles ended the regular season at 31-21 overall and in fourth place in the conference standings at 13-15.
