The loss brings the Red Elephants (8-9-1) season to an end.
"We played with heart, passion... We left all out on the field. I couldn't be prouder," Gainesville coach Rick Howard said.
The Red Elephants put the second-ranked Wildcats (14-3-1) on their heels in the first half when Monish Lahiry scored midway through the period to give Gainesville a 1-0 advantage.
But Westminster answered two minutes later, scoring off a corner kick to level the game at 1-1.
"We made some changes at the half, and the second half was just a great game," Howard said. "It was a war."
But Gainesville couldn't hold out, crashing out of the playoffs when the Wildcats scored with just two minutes left.
"They're the No. 2 team in the state for a reason," Howard said. "But I'm proud to be associated with this team."
