Beckham scores late to push Dogs past East Tennessee

ATHENS -- Georgia (24-12) fell behind 8-1 before beginning to rally in the sixth inning. Derek Trent hit a three-run homer for East Tennessee (9-27) in the first inning, Chris Rankhorn hit a two-run homer in the second and Anthony Russell had a solo blast in the fourth for the Buccaneers.

Lyle Allen had a two-run single for Georgia in a three-run sixth inning. Rich Poythress had a two-run single to make it 8-6 in the seventh and the Bulldogs tied it in the eighth on an RBI fielder's choice grounder by Matt Cerione and a run-scoring error.

Beckham singled, stole second and advanced to third on a fly ball before scoring the winning run.

Steve Esmonde (2-0) got the win in relief. Ben Andrews (2-3) took the loss.
