The Gym Dogs clinched a spot in the NCAA championships by winning the Northeast Regionals at Penn State on Saturday night. They captured their 20th regional win in Suzanne Yoculan's 25 years as coach, and the score of 197.775 points was their best in a regional victory since Georgia put up the same total in 2001.
Georgia is hosting the NCAA championships, which will held April 24-26 at Stegemon Coliseum.
``Regional meets have not necessarily been our team's forte in the past 10 years, so I'm really proud of the way we performed,'' Yoculan said. ``We're still having some troubles on vault, but our other three events were beautiful tonight, especially beam.''
Also advancing from the Northeast Regional was second-place Denver. Host Penn State finished third.
Georgia's Tiffany Tolnay won the meet all-around with a career-high 39.675 behind a pair of 9.900s on bars and beam and meet-high scores in floor (9.925) and vault (9.950). It was Tolnay's second straight regional vault title.
Other individual titles won by Gym Dogs were Katie Heenan on bars (9.950); Heenan, Grace Taylor and Courtney McCool on beam (9.950); and McCool on floor (9.925).
``Tiffany really put a great meet together tonight,'' Yoculan said. ``She had four very solid events, but we also had several others with great three events. Katie didn't do floor, but her other three events were great.''
