The Piedmont Lions took two games from visiting Emory University on Sunday, bringing them to 24-7 on the season.

The Lions closed out their home schedule with a 19-5 record within the friendly confines of Loudermilk Field.

The 16th-ranked Lions defeated No. 14 Emory 7-6 in the first game of the doubleheader, using late-inning heroics from Justin Vorherr.

After leading 1-0 for the majority of the game, the Lions surrendered a pair of sixth-inning runs and fell behind 5-1 after Emory scored three runs in the eighth.

However, the Lions doubled their efficiency in the eighth, outpacing what they had done in the previous seven innings. Piedmont matched Emory with three eighth-inning runs but trailed 5-4 entering the ninth.

Emory added an insurance run in the top of the ninth with a solo home run by Dan Molnar, giving the Eagles a 6-4 lead.

But Piedmont fired back in the bottom half of the inning. Senior Cole Spedale led off with a walk and was followed by junior Andrew Migetz's RBI double that missed leaving the park by inches. One out later, with Piedmont down 6-5, freshman John Duke singled up the middle to plate the tying run. After a wild pitch that brought Duke to second, Vorherr drilled a walk-off double into left center for the 7-6 win.

Piedmont carried the momentum to the nightcap of the doubleheader, defeating Emory 10-6.

The Lions lost a 4-1 lead after Emory scored five runs in the fourth inning. But Piedmont scored one run in the fourth and regained the lead with three sixth-inning runs.

Senior Andy House was 5-for-7 in the doubleheader with three RBIs and three sacrifices. Senior Evan Nissley tallied four runs and four stolen bases, while Migetz was 5-for-7 with three RBIs and three walks. Vorherr had three RBIs and two doubles.

Piedmont collected 24 hits in the two games, with nine going for extra bases.
