The Piedmont Lions began Great South Athletic Conference play this weekend, taking two of three games against visiting Huntingdon College in Demorest.

The No. 11 Lions took the first game easily with a 9-1 win.

After Saturday's game was rained out, Piedmont and Huntingdon played two on Sunday. Huntingdon upset the Lions in the first game Sunday with a 9-6 win. However, Piedmont rebounded well to win the nightcap 4-1.

The wins moved Piedmont to 22-7 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.

The Lions have struggled as of late, losing four of their last nine games. Previous to that stretch, Piedmont had an impressive 17-3 record.

Senior Cole Spedale saw a 17-game hit streak snapped by Huntingdon in the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday. Spedale is batting .347 on the season.

Senior Tom Dimitroff has led Piedmont with a 5-1 record, nine saves and a 1.70 ERA, as well as 50 strikeouts.

Spencer Shelton has also made an impact on the mound, amassing a perfect 4-0 record with a 2.22 ERA and a team-high 59 strikeouts.

Piedmont closes out its 15-game homestand on Friday with a game against Emory University Loudermilk Field.
