Piedmont baseball pounds Centre

DEMOREST -- Piedmont College exploded for a season-high 11 runs en route to an 11-4 victory over visiting Centre College on Thursday.

The Lions used a four-run second inning, highlighted by senior Justin Oates' one-out, RBI triple.

Freshman Dusty Black picked up his first collegiate win, pitching five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks.

Centre College made it interesting in the fourth, plating two runs to leave Piedmont up 6-3.

The tenth-ranked Lions picked up a run in the sixth before adding two more runs in both the seventh and eighth frames.

Senior B.J. Hampton pitched three innings of scoreless baseball, allowing only one hit and a walk while striking out three.

Senior Andy House led the Lions with a two-hit night, tallying three RBIs. Oates, senior Evan Nissley and sophomore Corey Lindsey each collected two hits as well. Lindsey recorded a double, two RBI and a couple of runs scored. Eight different Lions recorded hits.

Piedmont moves to 19-4 on the season, as well as an impressive 14-2 at home. After losing a nine-game win streak this past week, Piedmont has won its last two games.

The Lions will take on visiting University of Wisconsin-Platteville at 7 p.m. Friday at Loudermilk Field in Demorest.
