Class A girls: Covington, Paris help Calvary Day win first state title (3/8)

MACON -- Katie Covington scored 26 points and Natalie Paris added 17 to lead Calvary Day to a 57-48 win over Terrell County in the Class A girls state championship game.

The Cavaliers (27-5), who lost to Savannah Country Day 63-39 in the regional finals, rode a five-game winning streak to their first state title Saturday.

Terrell County led 24-20 at halftime. But the Cavaliers claimed their first lead after Covington drove the baseline for a layup, then added a 3-pointer to put them ahead 25-24 with 5:47 left in the third quarter.

Paris, who made five 3-pointers, connected from beyond the arc to give Calvary Day a 44-40 lead two minutes into the fourth.

Monshay Thomas scored 23 points for Terrell County (29-2).
