Williams, Turnbow lead Stephenson to AAAAA girls state title (3/7)

DULUTH -- Jylisa Williams scored 15 points and Taylor Turnbow blocked nine shots to lead Stephenson to a 58-43 win over Redan in the Class AAAAA Georgia High School Association state championship on Friday night.

The Jaguars (29-3) beat Redan for the third time, winning twice in the regular season by an average of 21 points.

Redan (24-8) was held scoreless for the first three minutes of the second quarter. Stephenson capitalized, going on a 13-0 run to take a 31-14 halftime lead.

Stephenson pushed its lead to 23 points in the third quarter. After Redan went on a 11-1 run, the Jaguars scored nine of the next 11 points to put the game away. Yasheeka Jones and Hiydaayah Williams scored 10 points each for Stephenson.

Turnbow, an LSU signee, had eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Nia Evans led the Raiders with 15 points and eight rebounds.
