ATHENS -- Georgia had its first spring practice in full pads on Friday before taking a week off for spring break.

Georgia will return to practice on March 17. Coach Mark Richt said several players can use the week off to recover from injuries before the April 5 G-Day game.

``I think the week off gives the guys who are banged up a much better chance to be ready when we get back and for them not to lose any time this spring,'' Richt said.

Freshman offensive guard Chris Little (foot), sophomore tight end Bruce Figgins (ankle) and senior linebacker Marcus Washington (shoulder) have been slowed by injuries.

Richt had praise for the work of his young tailbacks Caleb King, Dontavious Jackson and Richard Samuel. King, who was redshirted last season, is the top backup to Knowshon Moreno. Jackson and Samuel are true freshmen who enrolled early.

``Our young backs had some nice blocks and runs today and I think after the last two days they have all gained some confidence,'' Richt said.

Richt said Jackson, from Heard County ``had a couple touchdown runs.''
