Thrashers fall to Pittsburgh in shootout, 3-2

PITTSBURGH - Rookie Kris Letang scored the only goal in the shootout as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Atlanta Thrashers 3-2.

The Penguins won despite blowing a 2-0 first-period lead.

Ryan Malone and Maxime Talbot scored for the Penguins and the Thrashers rallied back on goals by Jim Slater and Slava Kozlov. It was Atlanta's seventh straight loss.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves for the Penguins and stopped all three Thrashers in the shootout.

Pittsburgh takes over the Atlantic Division lead by 1 point over idle New Jersey.
