GAINESVILLE -- The Lanier (Gainesville) Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) is hosting the second annual Sporting Clays Fundraiser on March 8 in support of its Hunters for the Hungry program.

The event will be held Saturday, March 8, at Etowah Valley Sporting Clays facility in Dawsonville, and 100 percent of the proceeds stay local and will go to benefit the local Hunters for the Hungry program. A rain date has been scheduled for March 15.

Individual shooters can shoot for $100 or a squad of four for $400. Entry fee includes the 100 round sporting clay course with 12 stations, event T-shirt, steak dinner, and an opportunity to win multiple raffle prizes. Registration starts at 2 p.m. All participants are required to bring their own shotgun, approximately 150 shells, and eye/ear protection.

To sign up, call Rick Walters, (678) 316-2435, or Sean Ryan, (770) 757-0384.

Hunters for the Hungry began in the fall of 2006, when the Lanier Branch of QDMA teamed up with one of its Corporate Sponsors, Southern Heritage Land Company (SHLC), and Patrick Hroma of PK's Cooler in Gainesville. The Lanier Branch of QDMA and SHLC provided the funding while Patrick provided the processing at a reduced rate. In addition, SHLC also helped out by purchasing a separate freezer for the program. A letter was sent to all Georgia QDMA members encouraging them to participate and other hunters were made aware of the program as they dropped off deer at PK's Cooler.

In 2007, 2,940 pounds of ground venison was processed and distributed to local Gainesville and Hall County charities -- equating to 14,700 meals. Going into its third year, the Lanier Branch of QDMA and SHLC hope to expand the program.
