Humphrey's 22 leads Lady Dogs over Auburn

ATHENS, Ga. - Tasha Humphrey scored 22 points to lead No. 24 Georgia to a 68-56 win over stubborn Auburn.

Humphrey hit a pair of field goals with two minutes to go, ending a field-goal scoring drought of better than nine minutes by Georgia (20-7, 7-5 Southeastern Conference) to put away Auburn. The Lady Tigers had trimmed a 21-point deficit down to six.

DeWanna Bonner led Auburn (18-9, 6-6 SEC) with 20 points, and Sherell Hobbs added 14.

Auburn led 6-4 after Bonner's spin move with 17:12 showing. But the Lady Dogs scored the next 18 points over an eight-minute stretch, capped by Angel Robinson's jumper from the top of the lane, making it 22-6 Georgia with 9:38 remaining in the half.

Georgia led 34-15 with 3:02 left in the half on Christy Marshall's steal and layup but failed to score again in the half. The Lady Tigers managed one field goal and four free throws to close to within 34-21 at the half.

Georgia held a comfortable margin early in the second, building to a 53-32 lead with 9:06 to go when Humphrey hit a pair of free throws.

But Auburn followed with a 12-0 run, closing to within 53-44 on a layup by Sherell Hobbs. Bonner capped another 6-0 moments later to bring Auburn within six at 57-51 with 2:30 remaining.

Humphrey's 22 points moved her into second place on the career scoring chart at Georgia, four points ahead of Katrina McClain's 2,195 points. Janet Harris holds the career scoring record with 2,641 points.
