The fire began around 5:00 and units of the Gainesville Fire Department quickly responded and extinguished the small blaze, according to Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada.
Canada estimated damage at about $3,000 to the El Taco Delos Restaurant on Jesse Jewell Parkway near Dorsey Street.
He said the fire started when grease came in contact with an open pilot light.
No one was at the restaurant at the time of the blaze and no one was injured.
