Rep. Jeanette Jamieson (D-Toccoa) said she struck a deal with the state Department of Revenue that gives her until March 15 to pay the bill. Jamieson said she was distracted by the responsibilities of public office and lost track of her personal finances.
An audit shows Jamieson's delinquent taxes span eight years, starting in 1998.
She has served in the Legislature since 1985.
Last month, a Fulton County grand jury indicted one of her Republican colleagues, Rep. Chuck Scheid, for not filing an income tax return in 2005 and not paying his tax bill in 2003. At least a dozen state lawmakers have gotten in trouble with the state revenue department since 2003 for not paying state income taxes.
