In the book, Franklin explains "the spiritual power of fasting" and teaches readers that fasting is more than an annual event, but a lifestyle to those who participate.
Released Jan. 2, the book is the first New York Times best-seller for Franklin.
The message behind "Fasting" initially came from an annual January fast held by the two churches that Franklin pastors, Free Chapel in Gainesville and Free Chapel in Orange Co., California. This led to a series of sermons on the topic that were eventually broadcast on Kingdom Connection, the television outreach of the ministry which is carried by Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and other networks.

The premise of the book has impacted the lives of thousands at Free Chapel Church who have been a part of the author's yearly emphasis on fasting.
