ATHENS -- Georgia senior Rebecca Rowsey will miss the rest of the season due to complications from an old knee injury.

Rowsey missed the 2005-06 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. She will have surgery on Thursday to relieve problems caused by deteriorating cartilage in the knee.

``I'm disappointed for Rebecca that her senior year has to end like this,'' said coach Andy Landers. ``Rebecca epitomizes the type of commitment that you would like every basketball player to have.

``It's difficult for anyone to have their career cut short, but it's even more disappointing considering how much time and sweat she has put into basketball.''

Rowsey, a 6-foot-3 forward from Henderson, Tenn., started 63 of her first 100 games at Georgia but has seen her playing time reduced while averaging 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in about nine minutes per game this season for Georgia.

Rowsey is a member of the University of Georgia's honors program with a grade point average over 3.7. She is on schedule to earn degrees in biology and religion this spring and plans to enroll at the University of Tennessee's medical school in Memphis in the fall.
