Fishing still good on Lake Lanier

FLOWERY BRANCH - Despite low water levels, Lake Lanier still offers a great fishing experience.

A man caught a 36.5-pound striped bass measuring 40.5 inches long while on a guided tour in late January. The fish was caught using light spinning tackle, an eight-pound test line and an artificial lure.

The trip was led by long time Lake Lanier professional fishing guide Harold Nash of Harold Nash Lake Lanier Striper & Bass Fishing Guide Service.

Despite much negative publicity concerning Lake Lanier's low water levels, fishing has remained very good and, in fact, on the guided day that produced the 36.5-pound trophy, customers also boated eight other stripers up to 20 pounds, three spotted bass and two largemouth bass.

In 27 years of operating his professional Lake Lanier fishing guide business, Harold Nash customers have taken striped bass weighing 43 pounds, largemouth bass weighing 11.5 pounds and near State record spotted bass weighing 7 3/4 pounds.

Nash has identified the months of February and March as the year's best for both trophy stripers and trophy bass and he projects that February and March will again be the most exceptionally productive time this year, also.
