GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Three of North Carolina's Atlantic Coast Conference schools will play nationally televised Thursday night games this season, starting with North Carolina State's season-opening visit to South Carolina.

The 2008 football schedule released Friday by the ACC includes several high-profile intersectional nonconference matchups, including Notre Dame's first visit to North Carolina since 1975 and two home games for Wake Forest against Southeastern Conference teams.

N.C. State has two Thursday night games, Aug. 28 against the Gamecocks and Oct. 16 at home against Florida State. North Carolina visits Rutgers on Thursday, Sept. 11, and Wake Forest is home against Clemson on Oct. 9.

The only Big Four school that didn't draw a Thursday night game is Duke, which starts coach David Cutcliffe's first season with four home games. He makes his debut on the Wallace Wade Stadium sideline Aug. 30 against James Madison, followed by games against Northwestern the only team the Blue Devils beat last season Navy and Virginia.

Wake Forest's home schedule starts and finishes against SEC teams. The Demon Deacons, who open Aug. 30 at Baylor, play their home debut against Mississippi on Sept. 6 and finish the season Nov. 29 against Vanderbilt. The Commodores also mark Duke's other nonconference opponent when the Blue Devils visit Nashville on Oct. 25.

North Carolina's nonconference schedule also includes games against McNeese State of the Championship Subdivision and Connecticut, the defending co-champion of the Big East.

N.C. State will play out-of-league home games against William Mary of the FCS, South Florida and cross-state rival East Carolina.
