ATLANTA - Gov. Sonny Perdue announced relaxed water use restrictions for Hall and 60 other north Georgia counties two weeks ago. Gainesville city officials said Wednesday it is OK to go ahead and begin using water outdoors as long as these state-approved guidelines are are followed:

*Hand watering allowed for 25 minutes per day on an odd-even schedule between midnight and 10 a.m. Hand watering is defined as one person with one garden hose with a spray nozzle that shuts off when it is released. No use of sprinklers.

*An individual may water newly installed landscapes up to three days a week from midnight to 10 a.m. for a period of 10 weeks based on the odd-even schedule. An individual must participate in the online Outdoor Water Use Registration Program before being allowed to water new landscapes. The program is expected to be in place by April 1.

*Local governments and water utilities will be required to meet the governor's water use reduction goal of at least 10 percent.

*Off-numbered addresses may water on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Even-numbered address may water Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
