GAINESVILLE - Mike Huckabee edges Mitt Romney by one percent in Hall County Tuesday, while on the Democratic ballot, Barack Obama squeaked past Hillary Clinton.

Voter turnout in Hall County was 44 percent, while the turnout statewide broke a 20-year-old record for presidential primaries.

With 98 percent of the precincts reporting, more than 1.9 million ballots had been tallied.

Yesterday's vote total surpassed the 1988 presidential primary, when about 40 percent of the voters turned out. More than 600,000 Democrats cast their ballots then, and on the Republican side, about 400,000 voters turned out.

State elections officials say 247,897 people voted early, either by casting absentee ballots or advance voting.

In Hall County, 30,452 votes were cast. There were 21,782 voters in the Republican Primary and 8,670 in the Democratic Primary.
