WASHINGTON - Drought conditions have improved in parts of Georgia, but not in our area.

The U.S. Drought Monitor says northeast Georgia is in the same boat as about 5 percent of the Southeast - in the throes of an "exceptional" drought. That's the most severe conditions, according to the scale that is used to monitor the severity of droughts.

The parts of Georgia where things have improved recently include a large swath of central and south Georgia.
