KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee safety Demetrice Morley was arrested Thursday morning on an outstanding warrant for a robbery charge from 2007.

The warrant was issued in Miami after Morley, a 21-year-old redshirt junior, failed to appear in court Sept. 4 for a hearing stemming from the strong-armed robbery incident on April 24, 2007.

``As soon as the Miami paperwork is complete he will be released from jail, which we hope will be (Thursday night),'' Tennessee athletic department spokeswoman Tiffany Carpenter said.

Morley, who started 10 games in 2006, was not a part of the Volunteers squad at the time of the initial arrest after being dismissed by then-coach Phillip Fulmer for academic problems.

He was reinstated to the team this season after improving his academic standing and started 10 games. He was tied for eighth on the team with 42 tackles and had two interceptions.

The initial incident took place on the campus of Florida International University in Miami. According to the incident report, Morley and an FIU student robbed another student of $35, which they used to purchase food and gas.

Morley performed 75 hours of community service. The new follow-up hearing is rescheduled for Dec. 23.

The Vols had a rash of discipline problems during the last offseason. Eight players were arrested or disciplined for breaking team rules.

Carpenter said new coach Lane Kiffin, who was on a recruiting trip Thursday, has been told of Morley's arrest and wants to meet with him.
