The state Labor Department says the rate is 6.3 percent. It was 5.7 in September and 3.5 a year ago.
For the 13-county Georgia Mountains Region, the rate is 6.4 percent - an increase over September of .5 percent.
The largest increase in the area was posted by Barrow County - eight tenths of a percent. The smallest increases were in Banks, Habersham and Forsyth - four tenths of a percent in each.
