Police Chief Bruce Carlisle said 52-year-old Johnny Mack Brown was captured about 1 a.m. Saturday after scuffling with three officers, trying to get the gun of one who tackled him. He said the other two officers used pepper spray, a baton and a Taser to subdue Brown.
Brown was serving a life sentence for the 1977 shooting of an armored car guard. The other escapee, 48-year-old Michael Tweedel, was serving time for two armed robberies. He remains at large.
