Discussion, no action yet, on Gainesville School tuition fees

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville school board members met Saturday at Centennial Elementary School to hear system employee and public comments about possibly adjusting the fee out of system students pay to attend school in Gainesville.

But Finance Committee Chairman Sammy Smith repeatedly stressed the board is no where near a decision.

Smith convened a 10:00 a.m. public hearing for system employees, and an 11:00 a.m. hearing for the general public
Finance Committee member Kelvin Simmons said if it was not for the system’s $5-million deficit, tuition would have never come up
Fair Street teacher Dana San-U lives in Banks County and said paying tuition would be a real hardship on her daughter
