Shuler is one of more than 1,000 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program.
Mayor Myrtle W. Figueras said Gainesville is very fortunate to have someone of Shuler's expertise and experience.
"To receive the prestigious ICMA credential a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government, have earned a degree in public administration or a related field and demonstrated a commitment to high standards of integrity and to lifelong learning and professional development," Figueras said.
Shuler has 28 years of professional local government executive experience. Prior to his appointment as Gainesville city manager, he served as assistant city manager and development services director.
Shuler has also made significant contributions to a number of other organizations, including: Board of Directors for the Georgia Municipal Association, where he serves as chairman of the Revenue and Finance Committee, GMA Legislative Policy Council and the Georgia City-County Manager's Association.
