Gainesville planning new industrial park

GAINESVILLE - A 200-plus acre industrial park is in the works for the city of Gainesville.

The request to annex and rezone 20 acres of county-owned property and to rezone 210 acres of city-owned property in the Barber Road/Calvary Church Road area will come before the city's planning and appeals board on Feb. 12.

"The city has a long history of developing industrial parks," City Manager Bryan Shuler said. "We have pretty well exhausted the supply of industrial property for new industry to come into our area."

The city has been working with the Economic Development Council, Chamber of Commerce and the Gainesville-Hall County Development Authority to identify opportunities for a new industrial park.

Shuler said the park wouldn't necessarily target a specific industry.

"If you look at our industrial parks throughout the city we have a whole host of industries, from manufacturers to distribution centers," he said.

"It's really just creating a supply of land that's prepared for industrial purposes, to take advantage of whatever opportunities our community might have for a new industry."
