Tar Heels stay atop top 25 poll

North Carolina is once again the top team in the weekly Associated Press men's top-25 college basketball poll. The Tar Heels, who survived their first real test of the year yesterday with a win over Clemson, received 46 first-place votes while second-ranked Memphis got 25 and third-ranked Kansas one. Rounding out the top-five are Washington State and UCLA.

The second five this week are Michigan State, Georgetown, Tennessee, Duke and Indiana.

This week's second team consists of Texas A Texas, Vanderbilt, Butler, Marquette, Mississippi, Dayton, Clemson, Villanova and Pittsburgh.

The bottom five schools are Wisconsin, Rhode Island, Stanford, Xavier and Miami of Florida.

The top 25 teams in The Associated Press college basketball poll, with first-place votes in parentheses, records through Jan. 6, total points based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote and previous ranking:
