Son of imprisoned ex-sheriff shot in leg

<p>Sidney Dorsey Jr., the son of the imprisoned former DeKalb County sheriff, was shot in the right leg at an apartment complex over the holiday weekend, police said.</p><p>According to witnesses, the younger Dorsey, 41, was in a known drug and gambling area Monday around 10:30 p.m. when he was shot, Atlanta police officer James Polite said.</p><p>Dorsey told his wife, who rushed to the scene from her home, he had been robbed, but investigators found a wad of cash in his pocket, police Sgt. Neil Klotzer said. There were several people in the area at the time, but none claimed to have seen the shooter.</p><p>Dorsey has a lengthy criminal history that includes two prison stints for weapons and drug convictions.</p><p>His father, Sidney Dorsey Sr., is serving a life sentence for ordering the 2000 murder of incoming DeKalb County Sheriff Derwin Brown, who had promised to clean up corruption in the sheriff's department. Brown was gunned down Dec. 15, 2000, in his driveway. He never took office.</p><p>Gunman Melvin Walker, a former sheriff's deputy, and his accomplice, David Ramsey, are also serving life sentences.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x2de9e7c)</p>
