Riverside Military survives 35-34 barnburner

GAINESVILLE- The Riverside Military Academy Eagles fought back an assault on McGinnis Field Friday Night, posting a 35-34 victory over a touch First Presbyterian Vikings team. The Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season, courtesy of a missed extra point.

The first half was mainly Riverside, as Ewin Holyfield starter things off with a 63-yard touchdown catch from Bill Dearybury.

On the next set of downs, the Vikings fumbled and Riverside recovered on their own 36-yard line. Eight plays later, Tersoo Uhaa went in from one-yard out for the score. The PAT made it 13-0, Riverside.

On Riverside's next drive, Dearybury's 46-yard touchdown pass expanded the Riverside lead to 20-0.

First Presbyterian finally got on the board when Ryan Smith hit Ben Childs from five yards out. The extra point made it 20-7 at the half.

The second half was mainly Presbyterians' as the Vikings scored with 4:19 left in the third quarter to make it 20-14.

Riverside then gave the ball back, and on the next series, the Vikings drove 80 yards, ending when Smith hit Childs for a 19-yard touchdown. The PAT made it 28-21, Riverside, with 9:02 left in the game.

The Vikings scored again when Smith hit Taylor Jones from 13-yards out. The extra point tied it at 28-28.

The next score came with 1:21 left, when Dearybury hit Logan Clemons from 13-yards out. The PAT made it 35-28.

The Vikings drove downfield, and with two seconds left, Zack Jones went in from the 13-yard line to make it 35-34. The PAT was no good, and the nail-biter ended with a Riverside win.
