<p>Frank Brown, president of Columbus State University for nearly 20 years, will be retiring next year, he announced Monday.</p><p>Brown, the third president in the history of the school, has been in office since January 1988 and has worked for Columbus State for almost 27 years.</p><p>His last day will be June 30, 2008.</p><p>"There's no place on earth that I would have rather served than here and I'll continue to do so," he told faculty and staff at a luncheon on Monday. "My heart is here."</p><p>He said the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents will begin searching for his replacement in January and that he's ready to help CSU "prepare for the transition."</p><p>"It doesn't matter what position you have at the school," said nurse June Battiato, who works for student health services. "Dr. Brown always has time for you. I was surprised at the announcement. He's an honorable man and it'll be sad to see him leave."</p><p>Brown is a native of Flomaton, Ala. He has an associate degree in business administration from Northwest Mississippi Junior College, a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Southern Mississippi, an MBA from the University of Alabama and Ph.D. in education administration from Florida State University.</p><p>He came to what was then Columbus College in June 1981 and served as vice president for business and finance.</p><p>Before coming to Columbus, he had worked at the University of Houston and Livingston University.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x2de9af4)</p>
