WASHINGTON - Hall County's population is now pegged at about 173,000 - according to the latest Census Bureau estimate. And, about half the growth between 2000 and 2006 can be attributed to Hispanics.

The number of Latinos now living in Hall County is put at around 45,000 - meaning minorities make up about 35 percent of county's population.

The Census Bureau's annual population estimates, which were released Thursday, put the number of people living in Hall County as of July 1 2006 at 173,256. That compares to 139,277 following the 2000 census and 95,428 after the 1990 census.
