ATLANTA - The state Environmental Protection Division has fined Gainesville and Baldwin for sewage spills.

Gainesville is facing fines totaling $7,700, according to the EPD Web site. Baldwin is being fined $2,500.

In adding, a tourist attraction in Helen has also been slapped with a $2,500 fine.

Cool River Tubing was cited for violation of state sedimentation and erosion control regulations. It is being ordered to submit a proper stream buffer restoration plan and remove concrete structures EPD says were installed without a variance.
